Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. ParTrek doesn't have accounts or sign-in, so there's nothing to sign up for. Open the app and start playing. Anything you add to your profile, such as your name and handicap, stays on your iPhone.
Is ParTrek free? What does Pro add?
The essentials are free: scoring by tap, saving rounds, the round journal, companion mode, practice logging, My Bag, Rule of the day, the rules and glossary, the first drill for every fault and the standard share card.
ParTrek Pro adds voice scoring and voice range logging, stats and swing patterns, club distances, practice trends, course search, the full drills library and extra share card designs. It's 14 days free for eligible new subscribers, then £1.99 a month or £12.99 a year (or the local equivalent shown by Apple).
Which devices does ParTrek support?
ParTrek is built for iPhone. There isn't an iPad layout at the moment.
Scoring a round
How do I start and score a round?
Start a 9 or 18 hole round, either from a saved course or by entering the holes yourself. Pro members can also search for a course (see "How does course search work?" below).
In Card view, use the −1, +1 and +2 buttons on each hole to set your strokes. The running total updates as you go. When you've finished, tap End round, then Finish & Save Round. ParTrek never fills in a score for you, so if you skip a hole it stays blank and you'll get a reminder before you save.
What is Focus mode?
Focus mode shows one hole at a time, with a big score, your putts and whether you hit the fairway or missed left or right. Switch between Card and Focus on the round screen, and ParTrek remembers the view you used last. Greens in regulation are worked out for you from your score, putts and par, so there's no extra button to press. Focus mode is free.
How do I change a hole's par?
Tap the Par chip on any hole and choose Par 3, Par 4 or Par 5. Your totals and score against par update automatically.
Does ParTrek work out Stableford points?
Yes. Stableford points are calculated from your handicap and each hole's stroke index.
How do I add swing tags or a note to a hole?
In Card view, tap the chat bubble on a hole to open Note & tags. Tags describe what actually happened: good habits such as pure contact show in green, and faults such as pulled left or chicken wing show in terracotta. In Focus mode, switch to Card to add them, or with Pro just say "note" followed by what happened.
Fault tags aren't just a diary. They link to drills for that fault and, where there is one, a short coaching clip.
Can I edit or delete a saved round?
Yes. Open the History tab, find the round and open it to make changes, or tap Delete round. Deleting is permanent, so only a backup can bring a round back.
Voice
How does voice scoring work?
Voice scoring is part of ParTrek Pro. In Focus mode, tap Log by voice, hold to talk and let go to log. You can say things like "Five, two putts, hit the fairway", "Bogey", "Make it five", "Add a putt", "Same as last hole" or "Undo". If ParTrek doesn't understand a score, it won't guess, so nothing is logged and you can simply say it again.
Can I add a voice note to a hole?
Yes. Say "note" and then what happened, for example "Five, two putts, note pulled it into the trees". The note is added to that hole. If you only say a note, your score stays as it is.
Why is the microphone locked?
Voice scoring and voice range logging are Pro features. If you're on the free version you'll see a locked microphone, and tapping it shows the Pro options. Scoring by tap is always free.
What can I say on the range?
With Pro, you can log practice strokes by voice on the Practice tab. Tap "What can I say?" for the full cheat sheet, including wedge lofts such as 52, 56 or 60 degree. Spoken distances are in yards. Each stroke ParTrek recognises is logged straight away, with Undo if you change your mind and Fix and re-log if it misheard you.
Does ParTrek record my voice?
No. Your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your iPhone where possible. If that isn't available for your device or language, Apple may process it on its servers. ParTrek doesn't save audio or transcripts, only the scores and notes you log.
Round journal and companion mode
What is the round journal?
The journal is a quick way to capture how a round went, and it's free. It asks four questions: How did it go?, Best shot, What cost you and One thing to work on. You can add quick tags for what went well and what didn't, photos, and notes for individual holes. You can reopen and edit a journal entry later from History.
I already keep score in VPAR, Squabbit or The Grint. Can I still use ParTrek?
Yes, that's what companion mode is for. During setup, ParTrek asks which app you use for your scorecard: VPAR, Squabbit, The Grint, SmoothSwing, another app, or ParTrek itself. Then choose how you'd like to use it:
Journal only: keep score in your usual app and use ParTrek to journal the round.
Scorecard + journal: score in ParTrek and journal as well.
You can change this at any time in Profile under How you use ParTrek, and you can also choose for each round when you start it. Companion mode is free.
Does ParTrek connect to my other scorecard app?
No. ParTrek doesn't connect to or exchange any data with other apps. If you'd like, you can type in your final result from the other app: gross, net, Stableford points, position and which app it came from. Journal only rounds aren't included in ParTrek's stats, and share cards aren't offered for them.
Practice and drills
How do I log a practice session?
Open the Practice tab and, under Session, tap + Log your first stroke (or + Log a stroke once you've started). For each stroke you can record the club, distance, contact, ball flight and tags. Save the session with notes, and find past sessions under Past. Practice logging by tap is free.
Saved sessions can't currently be edited, but you can delete one with Delete session.
What are practice Trends?
Trends is a Pro feature on the Practice tab. It shows your last eight weeks of practice: sessions, strokes, how often you made pure contact and your most common faults. Once you have enough data, it also compares the last four weeks with the four before.
Where do drills come from?
ParTrek has 73 drills across 33 common faults. When you tag a fault, ParTrek suggests drills beside your practice sessions and round summaries, and you can browse them all in Practice under Drills. Each drill has clear steps and a target or number of reps. The first drill for every fault is free, and the rest come with Pro. Where there's a matching coaching clip, you'll see Watch a clip.
A coaching video won't play. What can I do?
Coaching clips stream from YouTube, so you'll need an internet connection to watch them. If a clip won't load in the app, tap Open in YouTube app to watch it there instead.
Yardages and courses
How does ParTrek know my real yardages?
Club distances are a Pro feature, built from the distances you log in practice. A club unlocks once you've logged five strokes with pure contact, and its yardage is the average of your pure strikes. Choose Last 7 days, Last 90 days or All time (90 days is the default). Only clubs in My Bag are shown, and the putter isn't included.
These are your own logged numbers, not GPS or launch monitor readings. Distances can show in yards or metres.
How does course search work?
Course search is a Pro feature. Search UK golf courses by name or tap Near me, then choose your course and tee. Where the course data has them, pars, hole yardages and stroke indexes fill in your scorecard for you. This isn't live GPS distance to the green. Saved courses work offline, and anyone can enter a course's holes by hand for free.
What does Near me share?
Only when you tap Near me, ParTrek takes a single approximate location reading and rounds it to about 1 km on your iPhone before using it to find nearby courses. There's no background tracking, and you can always search by name instead.
Your bag, rules and sharing
What is My Bag?
In Profile, My Bag is where you choose the clubs you carry. You can reset to a standard 14 club bag, and ParTrek will warn you if you go over the 14 club limit, but it won't stop you. Club distances only show the clubs in your bag.
What is Rule of the day?
Rule of the day appears on the Home screen and rotates through 60 short tips, changing each day at midnight. It's hidden while you're playing a round. In Profile you'll also find Local Rules & Etiquette (pace of play, safety and etiquette), a Swing Glossary and coaching tips. This is general guidance, so always check your own club's local rules. It's all free.
Can I share my round?
Yes. The Summary share card is free and includes any milestones you've earned. Pro adds the detailed Scorecard design and a Practice session card. Cards show your profile name and handicap if you've added them, the full date and a QR code linking to ParTrek on the App Store. They share as an image through the usual iOS share sheet.
What stats does ParTrek show?
Stats are part of ParTrek Pro. You'll see your round averages, best round, average score against par, fairways hit, putts per hole, greens in regulation, trends and progress towards a target handicap. Swing patterns look at your practice for recurring faults, contact and ball flight, and point you to drills that help. Everything is based on what you log, not video analysis.
ParTrek Pro and subscriptions
How much is ParTrek Pro?
ParTrek Pro is 14 days free for eligible new subscribers, then £1.99 a month or £12.99 a year, or the local equivalent shown by Apple. Apple shows you the offer and the price before you confirm, and payments go through your Apple ID.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Profile and, under ParTrek Pro, tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. If you're in the middle of a round, finish it first.
How do I cancel?
Go to iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose ParTrek. You can also tap Manage subscription in Profile under ParTrek Pro. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription.
Your data and backups
Where is my data stored?
At the moment, your rounds, journal entries, practice sessions and profile stay on your iPhone and are not uploaded to our servers. There's no account and no cloud sync.
A few features do use the internet. Course searches (and your approximate Near me location, if you use it) go through our server to a golf course data provider. Subscriptions are handled by Apple and RevenueCat. Coaching clips stream from YouTube, and voice uses Apple's speech recognition. Our Privacy Policy has the full details, and if we ever add something like online backup we'll update it and this page.
Does ParTrek work offline?
Yes for the essentials. Scoring, the journal, practice logging and saved courses all work without a signal. Course search, subscription checks and coaching clips need an internet connection.
Will I lose my data if I update the app?
No. Updating ParTrek from the App Store keeps all of your rounds, journal entries and practice history in place.
What happens if I delete the app?
Deleting ParTrek removes its data from your iPhone, and we can't recover it for you. If you might reinstall later, make a backup first (see below). Deleting the app doesn't cancel a Pro subscription.
How do I back up my data?
Open Profile, go to Data Management and tap Back up my data. ParTrek creates a backup file and opens the iOS share sheet, so you can save it to Files, iCloud Drive or your Mac. It includes your rounds, journal entries, practice sessions and settings.
Photos and videos aren't copied into the backup file, so keep those in your photo library.
I'm getting a new iPhone. How do I move my data?
Make a backup on your old iPhone first. Then install ParTrek on your new iPhone, open Profile, go to Data Management and tap Restore from backup, and choose your file. Restoring replaces the matching data on that iPhone rather than merging it, and ParTrek asks you to confirm first. Photos and videos attached to rounds may not appear on a different device.
We can't promise that an iPhone or iCloud device backup will carry ParTrek's data across, so a ParTrek backup file is the safest way to move.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual rounds in History and practice sessions in Practice. To clear everything, open Profile, go to Data Management and tap Delete all data (ParTrek asks you to confirm twice). Deleting the app also removes everything on your iPhone. Backup files you've saved elsewhere stay where you put them.
Anything else
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
In the app, open Profile and tap Send feedback under Support, or email corneil@efoma8consulting.co.uk. Tell us what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. Screenshots help a lot.
